.......As a native of Anda Pangasinan, the mother of the HUNDRED Islands off the coast of ALAMINOS, I have always thought that the Philippines is a beautiful country. I was able to visit a couple of places like Aurora, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Batangas and Zambales among others and I can't help but be awed by the beauty of our country. Then came BORACAY
this February and it was really a WOW. It's Paradise undiscovered by many people in the world and even by most of our own people.
.......During the trip, our student in an Online English school in ORTIGAS together with her family decided to go to EL NIDO since they have already been to BORACAY and she said that El NIDO

was far better than Bora. I just said---really? That cemented my Belief that the Philippines is a heaven on Earth. We have a lot of beautiful places that needs to be promoted.
And what about AMANPULO? http://www.amanresorts.com/amanpulo/home.aspx. The island is private property and belongs in totality to 7 Seas Resort (owned by the Sorianos). It is part of the high-end Aman group of resorts, under the name Amanpulo. It is too expensive though so it will be a fantasy most most of us........
...... I was so fascinated to know that in Southeast Asia , we have a very small share to tourist arrivals. It was actually shocking to know that THAILAND. Unfortunately, we had only 3.7 million in 2007.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Thailand
......is it because there are many prostitutes in Thailand? Not only Women and Men but transvestites? Maybe. Or maybe they really have better facilities and infrastructure other than the more than usual things that they can offer.....
And what about Malaysia? I guess they have very good promotional gimmicks. How could 17 million tourists be possible in that not so many beautiful country? Thailand is better. And the Philippines and Indonesia I think are far better.
There are many other reasons of course. And we cannot blame them for the low number of tourists arrivals in our country. But I believe that our country is far better but we need to look inward and improve our own part of the world.......
HERE is the data for Tourist arrivals (per capita) in the
ASEAN REGION from Nationmaster.com
World RAnk Country
#15 Singapore: 1,475.6 per 1,000 people
#51 Malaysia: 259.299 per 1,000 people
#73 Thailand: 113.638 per 1,000 people
#108 Philippines: 25.3025 per 1,000 people
#111 Indonesia: 21.4279 per 1,000 people
We need to do a lot in order to meet our target of 10 million tourists by 2010. I am not sure though if the privatization of some of our tourist spots is the answer to it.That is a subject of another debate.
