I tried to avoid being too opinionated in this blog. Over the years, I realized that there's no point being too pushy with your opinions unless your main objective is to change the world. But I am no messiah, nor a reformer. I have grown tired of that stage in my life when I tried to influence people and draw them into my sphere of mentality. There is an ongoing battle within me, and i realized that changing people around me is not the best way to move forward. I have to wage it from within.
Having said all that, I hope you forgive me if I mention about this little debate i had with a friend. You see, being a self-employed person doesn't mean I am completely detached from mainstream society. As a Filipino netizen, I take track of what is happening in and out of the country. I rejoice at our achievements and I weep at our misfortunes. I am still a proud Filipino. Less noisy but still pretty much involved. Like during the national election---one single event which has a very significant effect on the lives of 92 million of us.
And then the latest argument. I TOLD HIM THAT I SEE PROGRESS EVERYWHERE. He begged to disagree adding that he can't even feel it. I felt sorry for him because I do. I see it and feel it. I understand. Not everybody's benefited from the past few years of economic gains but hell if you say that you don't even see it.
Eveybodys aware that I was in my friends place last week. And one thing I like about her location is that it gives you a 360 degree view of the metro---or say almost (except Bonifacio Global City). The photos of Makati, Ortigas and Greenhills here are proof of the rapid development that's going on.....it's all around us.
Opportunity is often difficult to recognize; we usually expect it to beckon us with beepers and billboards. ~William Arthur Ward

ortigas district from wack wack heights condominium.....
That was the time when I realized that my best friend and I has drifted apart (in our perceptions of everyday life) Maybe because I have already become practical and he remained idealistic. Well, his candidate won. I wish all of us good luck. I hope it will not be 6 years of NOTHINGNESS under an incompetent president. I hope all 9 years of uninterrupted economic growth would not just go down the drain...........And then the latest argument. I TOLD HIM THAT I SEE PROGRESS EVERYWHERE. Greenhills San Juan with wack wack golf and country club

Yeah, it is difficult to recognize but I guess you agree with me when I say that you need to see it first before you can take advantage of it. Maybe some people don't see progress because they don't want it or maybe beacuse they are afraid to seize it........
Well, we all are but entitled to our own opinions. Whoever is right or wrong, it's for our individual selves to find it out. It is real hard to change someones point of view to be of the same wavelength as yours. Well, we all are unique individuals. We have to live with it.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I have to agree with you that there is progress; but maybe that was insignificant to some (or to many).
off topic: So your hometown was Alaminos. You had a very beautiful place there. I enjoyed my stay.
i used to like eastwood so much along with makati but now i prefer the areas of bonifacio global city, rockwell and alabang. but most of the time youll see me in makati mainly because it's my workplace.
ReplyDeletehmm, you know i wonder. what if naki "jump the bandwagon" lang ung mga tao kasi un ung in. gets?
I am not pro or anti (i did not vote for the outgoing [she shouldn't have run out of delicadeza] nor the incoming president [too inexperienced compared to others and much hyped because of what happened during the season]), but what if, what if lang na we focused on the speck of dirt than on the big picture.
We filipinos are waaaayyy too perfectionist, hehehehe.
ReplyDeletedong ho --yeah. Boniacio Global City is way better. for now...and alabang too kasi dipa masyado crowded. di lang natin alam after a few years....
ReplyDeleteOliver ---tama. mahirap na. now I am sparking another debate. anu ba post ko. haha
ReplyDeletenice shots... progress it is ;)
ReplyDeletein a way nakukuha ko yung point ng friend mo. pwede kasing maraming naitatayong bagong building, pero wala naman laman.or kung may nagbubukas na bagong business tapos magsasara din pagkatapos ng ilang buwan.
ReplyDeleteit may have been progress, pero temporary lang. maybe what your friend was looking for was a more permanent one. i don't know.
^ check!
ardee sean--it is. you should see it.

ReplyDeletegillboard---nice point. although progress is always temporary.that is true even with advanced economies.....
ReplyDeletechyng---but denying is different. when you say you don't even see it. that's a completely different thing.
ReplyDeletewell ako Im with you kuya ton. Progress can't happen in one night. It's a slow process and with the rate we're going now, it's steadily fast. it's actually booming. If there's no progress, we won't have jobs, most of you can't even do your travels. Perhaps we're not just that satisfied but in a few years or so (and if we and the new government work hard for it), it isn't impossible. Let's take one step at a time. :)
ReplyDeleteoh well, you can't be a hero in everyone's eyes! :)
ReplyDeleteprincess_dyanie---people have to see it and grasp it. but if you deny it's existence, how can you take advantage of it?
ReplyDeletenice photos, good camera.
I don't like debates pero sa arguments ma-weigh mo yung isang bagay, even a coin meron dalawang sides, kahit sa ugali ng isang tao, merong masama, merong mabuti.
ReplyDeleteRedlan--- uo. got a point there. which means me igaganda pa ang sitwasyun.but on the point of discussion---do you see progress?
ReplyDeleteJust want to share what my friend told me when we had a debate about the LEADERS--> "Okay lang naman cguro na kurakot as long as may nagawa at may nakikitang progress"
ReplyDelete...at napaisip ako sa sinabi niya hehehe...
Anyways, I love your photographs...very artistic!Keep it up!
