This was our last stop in our short trishaw tour of Georgetown's Core Zone.Yeah,we paid RM30 for three destinations, Queen Victoria Tower,Penang Peranakan Mansion and THE GODDESS OF MERCY TEMPLE.
The temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin,the goddess of mercy.The first foundation was laid in 1728 by Chinese settlers and completed in 1800.
It was here where I realized we should have rented bicycle instead instead since both me and my wife are good at riding bike naman.
Anyhow,we had a quick look inside the temple since entrance is free.It was a rather small looking Temple with the main prayer hall greeting you upon entry.I went deeper inside where a smaller prayer section is situated.
Nothing much to see really.Or was it because I was too much in a hurry I wasn't able to pay attention to the details?I was about to leave the place when our trishaw driver followed me showed me to another section closed to the public.That's when I realized that the bigger section of the temple is under restoration work.A few months from now and tourists will see a newly restored Godess of Mercy Temple restored to its old glory.
I think I should go back and try to appreciate it more.A structure this old deserves better recognition :)

Opens: 6:00am to 8:00pm daily.

"The land where the temple sits was a gift from the East India Company to the early Chinese settlers here. Originally dedicated to Ma Chor Po - a patron deity seafarers and an incarnation of Kuan Im, the temple also houses other deities including the Tua Pek Kong (God of Prosperity), Kshitagarbha Buddha, Hu Ye (Tiger God), Tai Suey (God of the Year) and Boddhisattva Wei Tuo.
During the 1800s, it was among the most magnificent Chinese structures in northern Malaya, boasting of both Cantonese and Hokkien elements in its construction."---source:
