After camping in Calaguas Island, I was soooooo excited to get to Legaspi.Another 2 hours from Daet to Naga, and 2 hours from Naga to Legazpi, the reassurance of being within the borders of the city and all its comforts means relief.I missed hot showers, convenience stores, restaurants, and yes, even mobile phone coverage.
There is also another thing which made me very excited (other than seeing majestic Mayon for the first time) that is,knowing that we will be staying at--------The ORIENTAL HOTEL Legazpi.
Nestled on Taysan Hill,The Oriental Hotel gives an uninterrupted view of Legazpi City and Mayon Volcano from your hotel window. Thus,I didn't waste time after late check in to immediately tuck myself in bed so as to be able to wake up early the next day to see the view.Oh,that after having a hot shower of course!
THIS WAS OUR ROOM
I like the minimalist feel. From the lobby to the hallways to the room itself. You don't feel the unnecessary clutter .The soft colors (hues of ivory, gray, brown & white) in the room and dim lights are non-straining to the eyes.Adding to the 'fresh' feel is the room smelling good. You know it's clean and well kept.

A hot shower after hours on the road ----bliss!
I like it coz it's spacious. Most especially,I love the power shower.
THE ROOM w/ A VIEW (Of Mayon Volcano)
I set my alarm at 6am the next day to get a good view (and photo) of Mayon Volcano the next day.Unfortunately,Mayon was shy that day.a portion of its upper section was covered by cloud and it stayed like that the whole day.Sad.I still enjoyed the partial view though from the veranda of our room though.

The Minimalist theme of the Oriental Legaspi is consistent all throughout spaces, that goes with the Jasmine Restaurant as well where we had our buffet breakfast. The all glass windows on the ground floor lobby to the restaurant.Translate that again to a good view -----talk about prepping your appetite.Simple food selection but adequate and good.Lot's of fruit choices.I love the sweet and sour fish fillet and the chicken with oyster sauce.I was looking for something local, say Bicol Express, but didn't find one.I hope they do integrate it with their buffet menu to add more character into their menu. Para ramdam talaga ng mga guests na nasa Bicol/Legazpi sila.
JASMINE RESTAURANT
GYM
Just below the restaurant is the gym.Missed going on a workout for a week or so due to busy sked and the Bicol trip so my wife decided to give some of the equipments a try for a few minutes even if it was not really our intention to do so.With a gym this good and equipments this quality, sinu ba naman di gaganahan?
We also checked the Spa.Classy place!Coudn't comment on the quality of massage though coz we had no time to try it.Would like to give it a go next time especially because they have competitive prices for a hotel-based spa.
Our friends came a few minutes later and my wife and one of our friends decided to go for a dip at the infinity pool instead.
INFINITY POOL
The pool is located at the 2nd floor of the hotel. The view here is nice with the imposing white facade of the hotel on one side and the cityscape and Mayon Volcano on the other.Perfect place for an an infinity pool where my wife and our friend Mitch enjoyed themselves.I heard this is the city's 1st infinity pool.
Still, Mayon wouldn't show up that time though but we managed to get a few fun shots just the same.
For those who are coming in by land, taxi's area available.I noticed though that you have to call cab companies before you can hire a taxi in Legaspi City.Hindi katulad ng Manila napagala gala lang sila and you can stop one anytime.I guess to de-congest downtown area. It's also difficult to hire taxi if it's late at night. The hotel's shuttle service is 24/7 but that will be on top of your bill if it is other than airport transfers.
Just below The Oriental is an area they call Albay where the City Hall, Provincial Capitol and Cathedral of San Gregorio Magno are located. It's kinda confusing coz this is still part of Legaspi City but they want to keep calling it that way as it is the 'old district' of the city perse'.There are many establishment in the area and that's where we went after check out to have lunch at Bigg's Diner which I will talk about next time.
Legaspi City has the attractions and is worthy to be in the tourism map.The city definitely deserves an accommodation as 'classy' as The Oriental.
