I was a bit under the weather the other week.Perhaps all of the wonderful beach photos of friends posted over Facebook made me a bit envious. At the back of my mind,I was thinking, what am I doing here in Manila on Holy Week when everybody else is on vacation somewhere.Thinking deeply about it,staying around and not rushing out competing over rides and space with everybody else is one good choice. One can actually appreciate Metro Manila (being less crowded) during this time of the year.
And I did get to spend quiet and quality time with my wife on Holy Week, I am glad we checked in at COCOON BOUTIQUE HOTEL.
I heard that this is a green hotel so I was looking for aspects which makes it an eco-friendly hotel.I immediately noticed the lights being LED.Other than than,I didn't see anything else.Perhaps I don't have the eye for what makes a hotel "green" persee. Or maybe I was at that moment paying more attention to other things more important to me, and I guess 99% of guests ----how big the elevator is,is it clean?the hallways, how are they lit?what's the carpet's hue?does it give a creepy or fresh feel when you walk through it?Does it smell good?
Cocoon Boutique Hotel past the initial "smell and feel test".
THE ROOM
And what about the room? The smell and the ambiance are the most important first impression markers. I immediately noticed the wooden accent on the wall (opposite the bed) which is used to help fix the 32inch flat screen tv.Call it one of the signatures of this hotel. That, with the wooden floor added a rustic appeal to the room.
I thought their deluxe rooms are wider than that of other hotels.I don't like long but narrow deluxe rooms as they give a feeling of being squeezed in a closed space each time one moves in and out.The bed at Cocoon is a sweetheart.King size for a deluxe room? Why not! It easily makes it to the upper part of my list when it comes to best hotel beds.Oh,for a boutique hotel,I would put it on top!
Owe it to their use of Egyptian Cotton with 400 thread count that they are going to upgrade to 600 thread count soon!

There's so much to love about the room. The bathtub of course is another favorite. The glass wall means you can watch tv while having a bath. One cool thing about it is that there is a speaker inside the bath area which is louder and clearer than the built-in speaker of the tv itself so the sound of what you are watching is crisp.I thought it was the effect of the relaxing warm bath that the sound seemed to be louder until I discovered the speaker.hahaha
THE POOL at the Deck
It was brave for a boutique hotel to incorporate a pool in their building.Although small, the pool ads accent to the DECK where the restaurant and the bar are located. We enjoyed lazying around the poolside while sipping cold refreshment. My wife immediately took a dip while I was busy checking my social media accounts. It was already getting dark and I wasn't into it yet.I was finally enticed to take a dip when they opened the lights. The pool turned blue at night which made it more romantic.
I love this section of the hotel!

A HEARTY BREAKFAST
at the Deck Bar
The Deck Bar is an open air restaurant setup where breakfast buffet is served. It is refreshing to see an al fresco restaurant in the city.Lakas maka-resort feel.It was here where we had a hearty breakfast which I will be writing about in a separate entry soon.
WHAT MAKES COCOON GREEN?
Glass Windows:
Low-e laminated windows and doors.
Water
Rain and ground water tapped for toilet flushing and general house cleaning.
AirCon
Inverter-type airconditioner using non-ozone damaging R410A refrigerant.
OTHER FACILITIES
The 2nd floor leading to Iris Spa is where one can use computers for miscellaneous purposes.Of course they have good wifi system (even in rooms) but this is where you connect to the web in case you don't bring any laptop or tablet with you.
Timog and Tomas Morato area are of course well known for so many massage and spa establishments so the competition is really tough.I know Iris Spa is new in the playing field so I set my expectations low.I was surprised at how well designed the place is.By the way the massage rooms, the sauna, locker room and restrooms were designed and structured, you know that they have planned the place well.We had our massage in a private room and the quality falls on the upper part of our list in this price range of 600php.The have really comfortable massage beds ----heated beds at that---- and well experienced masseurs.Iris Spa deserves a separate blog post which I will be sharing to you soon. Please look for it.
This hotel concessionaire is located in the second floor and is open everyday from 10:00 am to 1:00 am.

"This place may look ordinary on the outside but once you've checked-in you'll see that this is an extraordinary place. The lobby is so cozy and the front desk staff are so welcoming. I've read in their manifesto that the interiors of this hotel were made from recycled materials which adds character to the place....."

"What good is a hotel with extremely nice furnishings, state of the art facilities if it has poor customer service? "A sanctuary that covers you in softness" is not just a claim but something you can feel and experience at Cocoon Boutique Hotel. It's nice to know that with all the modern rooms and amenities, you are actually taking part in the movement for a greener environment. For me though, the most important thing is the genuine hospitality that experienced during our stay. It's the Cocoon difference. My wife definitely agrees.

I mentioned being under the weather earlier in this post. That said,I was a bit stiff with people around. That is when I noticed how friendly people are at Cocoon Boutiqe Hotel. It would be tough to put up with somebody tough even if you have years of experience in hospitality.I have seen how they were still all smile at us and how they are very responsive to our needs.SERVICE IS VERY IMPORT TO GUESTS.
With all the hotels and accommodations I have tried,I know when they are faking it.At Cocoon Boutique Hotel, I noticed that employees put service at heart.

Of course there's cable internet in every room should you need one.
Located at the 5th floor is the exercise studio. They don't call it "gym" because it's small but it's good enough for a good workout should you want one.
IRIS SPA
With all of the nice things I mentioned about the hotel, falling in love with the place is very easy.I almost didn't want to check out.But the pleasant experience didn't end at checkout.Waiting for us at the 2nd level was Iris Spa.Timog and Tomas Morato area are of course well known for so many massage and spa establishments so the competition is really tough.I know Iris Spa is new in the playing field so I set my expectations low.I was surprised at how well designed the place is.By the way the massage rooms, the sauna, locker room and restrooms were designed and structured, you know that they have planned the place well.We had our massage in a private room and the quality falls on the upper part of our list in this price range of 600php.The have really comfortable massage beds ----heated beds at that---- and well experienced masseurs.Iris Spa deserves a separate blog post which I will be sharing to you soon. Please look for it.
