Seeing the area of Malate and Ermita decay a few years back saddened me. But if you visit the place now, you notice businesses flourish again. Pubs, retail spaces and dining spots abound. The night streets are alive again. Add to this, a handful of new hotels have opened in recent years cashing in on the increased tourist arrival in what is the historical core of the Philippine capital.
One of these accommodations is Amelie Hotel--- a boutique hotel with a character that is true to the rich heritage of the city of Manila. A hotel that both backpackers and business travelers will love.
It is located just a few blocks from Robinsons Ermita so it is easy to spot.
The hotel offers 70 rooms designed not just for aesthetics but for utmost convenience.
Intimate, stylish and warm
First, the lobby. Intimate, stylish and warm. One can easily notice the unique furniture that match the modern yet classy vibe of the hotel. The reception area is small but beautifully lit with a touch of simplicity. The receptionists calm, collected and quick on the job. One can also easily notice the local vibe at the lobby elevator entrance with an image of Manila City Hall as well as old colonial buildings incorporated on the wall design. The hallways are clean, carpeted and well lighted.

Amelie Hotel offers three room types ---deluxe 1, deluxe 2 and executive.

Baby Bath Tub
The bathroom, classy. Black dominates the tone. Complete with toiletries and a hair dryer fixed on the wall. I wished for a power shower but didn't get one. Ok enough though because it is easy to set the water heater. Would have been lovely if they have bath tub too.
We stayed in an executive suite. 31 sq.m of lovely space. I like it that there is enough space to breath and move around. It is not the typical boxy room with cream paint, this one is a mix dark hues and intimate lighting. There is simplicity in it with not so many accessories hanging on the wall yet it projects sophistication because of the proper placements of lights. I love the soft bed and the black sofa on one side. There is a workstation too equipped with internet cable. Free wifi in room. The closet is classy black and in there is a safe for your valuables.
Dark hues, dim lights that relaxes the senses. Comfortable bed and complete with the conveniences of a modern city hotel.

Galleon
by Mario's Kitchen
GALLEON by Mario’s Kitchen, the restaurant wing of Amelie Hotel, got its inspiration from the fact that Manila (specifically port of Manila nearby) used to be the global trade connection of the Philippines through Galleon Trade during the Spanish occupation. Not only the interior of the restaurant with maps and portraits hanged on a wood accented wall and the overall feel of the place is consistent with this theme but also with the food choices. Galleon by Mario's Kitchen offers both Philippine, Spanish and International dishes.
The good food, ambiance, the comfortable chairs, the watchful eye of the staff will make you enjoy this place.

Breakfast
A plated breakfast would cost at around 250 pesos. We tried Vigan longganisa and Omellete set and they were both satisfying. I specially like the Vigan longganisa--locally sourced from Vigan Ilocos sur served with scrambled egg and garlic rice. Love! The good food, ambiance, the comfortable chairs, the watchful eye of the staff will make you enjoy this place.
CityScape Roof Deck
and Convention Center
and Convention Center
120 sq.m of roof top space offering a very good view of the city.
The roof deck is one of my favorite spots. Would have been more lovely if they put up a small pool there but the city view from here is indeed beautiful. On the same roof floor is the function hall where one can have events while enjoying the view of Ortigas and adjoining skyline. Imagine booking the whole place for a party, cool. This is also where the small gym is located.
We went out at night to check the lively streets of Ermita but were back at Amelie before midnight. We found ourselves at the roof deck again enjoying the relative tranquility of the space while drinking our favorite beer. Most of our stay we spent at the hotel so as to take full advantage of the place. That in itself is telling.

Nearby
Amelie Hotel Manila’s location in Malate makes it the perfect base for exploring the vibrant city of Manila and its neighboring cities. The hotel is located;
-13km from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport
-7km from the Domestic Airport (NAIA Terminal 4).
Major tourist attractions include
Intramuros,
Luneta,
Manila Ocean Park,
Rizal Park.
It was not until after check out when we visited some nearby attractions especially Intramuros and the National Museum. Been at Intramuros many times but the place is always a darling to me because of its colonial feel. We dropped by The Bayleaf, another personal favorite when it comes to accommodation in the City of Manila. Climbed up the roof deck restaurant and wondered at the ever changing cityscape of Metropolitan Manila.
We also visited two of the famous churches-- San Agustin and Manila Cathedral-- past Spanish Colonial buildings and hordes of university students flooding the streets along famous schools like Letran. We ended out tour at nearby National Museum which happens to be free to public every Sundays. You won't believe it but it was my first time to visit the National Museum. It was such an enriching experience. We stayed until closing time after which we found ourselves boarding the LRT (train) back home.
What I also like about Ermita is that there is jeepney which takes you directly to Binondo and Divisoria. This is another key district in Manila famous for food and shopping. The first Chinatown in Asia is no less located here. When in Amelie Hotel, I suggest you try the place and you will feel more connected to the rich heritage of the city.
The Amelie Hotel weekend staycation was indeed one which combines relaxation and getting connected with the rich history and contemporary life of the capital. Indeed, Amelie is a Boutique Hotel located in the Old Bohemian District of Malate you will Love.
