Finally! a designer hostel that El Nido and the Philippines deserves! My friend from South Korea who has been dying to see the Philippines said she finally found the schedule to do so for Korean New Year of 2016. She was so excited to break to me the news. Being a travel blogger in the Philippines, she asked me about the best destinations and her list narrowed to two (2) being Bohol and El Nido. Before my return to El Nido a few weeks ago, she was inclined to pick Bohol. EL Nido sure is amazing but she was a bit hesitant about accommodations in the area. Since she is staying for 7 nights, (2 nights in Manila and 5 nights in her forward destination) she wants something that fits the budget without necessarily sacrificing quality.
My first time in El Nido two years ago did not afford me to check on many accommodation options. So I told her I will update her on that aspect when I get back. Staying at Spin Designer Hostel for two nights, I was convinced this is the perfect spot for her. I immediately sent her messages and pictures of Spin while there. Thank God many spots in El Nido are now 3G and wifi connected and the wifi at Spin was indeed very helpful. I enjoyed Spin so much --- chic ambiance, trendy design, wide common areas, nice rooms, diverse guests, warm staff, the overall experience being around so many travelers from all over the world with its spacious common areas as divergence point. Spin Designer Hostel has elevated the hostel concept not just in El Nido but in the entire country. It is the best I have tried to date.
No Better Location
for a Designer Hostel
in El Nido
One of my major concern was location. I wanted to be at the center of the action. But El Nido town where the best restaurants and socialization are located is already saturated. Who doesn't want a place next to the main beach anyway but that beach area is so small as the town itself and most of the accommodations there are old and a bit of a run-down. So you see expansion in Corong Corong area and that's exciting but Corong Corong is a long stretch and so you have spotty attractions. I wanted to be where everything is walking distance away. Spin Hostel is not at the towns beachfront but it is still smacked in an area where things are concentrated. Looking at the map I thought it is a little off but it is actually an easy 2-minute walk to the beach.
Forget about the 5.5 hours car ride from Puerto Princesa. I tell you, you will hardly notice that as the way to El Nido is already beautify that you will feast your eyes in the view. Once in El Nido, you will realize that all is worth it. The place is heaven-on-earth and if I said before "thank God for giving us Boracay", I say "thank you so much God for blessing the Philippines El Nido" and the heavenly island of Palawan which again was voted by readers of Conde Nast Travel Website as the Best Island in the World for 2015. El Nido deserves a designer hostel as chick as Spin.

I actually think they have picked a perfect location for the hostel as it afforded the developer ample space to come up with an accommodation with spacious common areas which I think is the hostel's strongest selling point. More on that later. In summary, Spin's location is perfect because it is the quieter side of town proper and still is where all the action and key attractions are less than a kilometer away. I love the Kaimito tress (star apple) around the hostel ground. It gives a feeling of being in nature. Unlike downtown where one structure borders another.

Stay Classy and Comfortable
without Breaking your Wallet
El Nido in itself is amazing that you wouldn't really care if you sleep on a hammock, in a tent by the beach or in some run-down accommodation. But it is refreshing to know that we have more choices now. Remember that not all travellers are the same in their accommodation needs. Spin Designer Hostel is the latest addition to spaces which El Nido deserves. At Spin, you can "Stay Classy and Comfortable without Breaking your Wallet."
Private and Dormitory Rooms
Queen-size Beds!
I stayed in a private room for 2 pax. One (1) double deck bed queen size each. If I heard it right, all beds in Spin Hostel are queen size, yes, even in dormitory rooms which is something I never heard of in a dormitory room or in any hostel. The room was fresh and clean coz they clean it everyday unless you notify them not to touch it. What I love about the room other than the fresh feel are the lights, they are so generous with lights. Lamps are classy too. The sink is in the room section and another section is for the toilet and the shower. The glass door works two ways to separate the shower from the toilet or the whole section with the room. I love the blankets too, soft, and the bed very comfortable.

Fresh, Classy, Affordable
It felt so fresh and it felt like a classy home away from home. You go back tired from island tours for the whole day to the comfort of your queen size bed and a hot shower. And when you are at Spin, you will looooove the common areas, The Nest where you hang out over board games, books or musical instruments. The dining and entertainment area where you can cook and eat, watch tv and socialize with friends. The Upper Ledge which is an open area with more tables for dining or simply catching fresh air. There's more but all three shared spaces I mentioned are all adjoined thereby giving the concept of space a whole new meaning in a place like El Nido town where space is restricted. This is what I call the central element of Spin Hostel, a new accommodation in El Nido that represents hip, warm and breathable space.
One of the reasons I recommended Spin El Nido to my South Korean friend is because I know this is the place where she can socialize with a diverse mix of travelers around the world. Spin being a chick hostels attracts a mix of cool people from all sorts of background and the spacious common areas provide a perfect venue for such socials. And the hostel hosts barbecue nights on Saturdays too. How cool is that!
Spin designer hostel is like big brothers house. It's a clean as you go, unlimited coffee, water and juices at the fridge, spacious common areas, can watch TV in the dining area. They have barbecue night during that time when we arrived. The breakfast experience were good though same menu each day (bread, egg, different spreads, juice coffee or water)....

Not a big fan of hostels but Spin is different. The 4p dorms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms were also clean and good. They also have private only women showers/toilets. The atmosphere was really good. Good place to meet people! During the evenings they organize stuff like movie night, bbq, bingo etc. Highly recommended.
Under the SPIN roof, new#connections are bound to happen. Breakfast
You will love breakfast at Spin. Comes free with the room just like in other hostels but I say they have one that is way above average. Toasts, fruits, coffee, juices unlimited and the even have somebody assigned to make omelet for you.

I've travelled a bit by now and to honest I wasn't expecting to find one of the best hostels I've ever been in El Nido. El Nido is small (a small paradise), so don't worry about the location of the hostel - you will get everywhere by walking 3 minutes. Fortunately is not in the middle of everything, so you...
“So Easy To Recommend To Friends!”
It really is so easy to recommend to friends and readers. And guess what, my Korean friend Eunso has already booked a flight for MNL-PPS and she is going El Nido and she has already booked a room at Spin for 5 nights! Get ready for your ultimate island experience I told her.

PS; And I realized most of my pictures were taken at night. Apologies. It's just that my days in El Nido I busily spent outdoors. Spin Hostel sure is lovely ady in and day out. But I also love it when night falls at Spin, I find the place more romantic thanks to its intimate lighting. ^^
